I’m very excited to bring to my shop these exquisite silk scarves featuring Tràigh Alba shell art from Scottish beaches. Professionally digitally printed from superb art reproduction photographs, their ultra high resolution showcases the beauty of Scottish shells in stunning detail. Four designs are available in this first release, chosen for the vibrancy they lend to these pieces of wearable art. Scarves have the ability to transform an outfit, and these unique designs provide a perfect focal point.
Based on my original art piece ‘Patience’, this scarf has a warm and incredibly rich colour palette of cream, beige, yellow, orange, rust, chocolate brown, grey and olive green. The fascinating details of hundreds of clustered flat periwinkles, arranged in a colour flow, are brought to life. Their surface texture, individual variation and central spirals provide so much visual interest.
Each scarf measures 100cm (39 inches) square, and is woven from pure silk into crepe de chine - a soft, smooth fabric that has a matte finish and a uniquely ripple-textured surface. This gives wonderful drape and depth of colour, and a very subtle sheen. The scarves are mid weight silk (16 momme), which is light enough to float but has enough structure to hold a variety of scarf ties. The generous sizing increases versatility, allowing use as a scarf, shawl or many other ways to wear. These pure silk scarves feel wonderful against the skin - warm yet breathable.
